11 Tucson Teachers Suing Arizona over Ethnic Studies Ban

A few months ago I put up a series of posts about the attempt by the Arizona Public School District to ban ethnic studies. One post was a CNN special where reporters went into the Ethnic Studies classroom of Tucson High School. The other was an interview of Tucson High School Ethnic Studies teacher Curtis Acosta.

For those who are unaware, Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne pushed a law to ban ethnic studies by the end of the year. If schools do not comply their district will see a 10% budget reduction.

Things have been pretty quiet throughtout the summer but since school has started back up this fall so has the conflict. CNN did yet another story on the Ethnic Studies ban. Stay tuned next week. I got an email from Acosta on Thursday. The official lawsuit will be filed on Monday.

You can check out the CNN report here. The young student crying at the end of the report is a heart breaker.
